Hey all,

Just a quick question, which ram do you think i should go for along with my E6600 and Asus P5N-E Sli?

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 £117 .49

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 £79.89

Id also like to add 2GB more once i get vista.

Thanks

Probably up to 3.0ghz, i won't be going over the top or anything.
Im just looking for best performance in games really, plus if i went OCZ id probably order 2 sets :)

The Ballistix 5300 and 6400 sticks supposedly reach the same clocks as the 8500 stuff from what I've read, I have the 6400 but haven't overclocked it yet as I've only got a crappy CPU at the mo.

If you are sticking to a budget of say under £100, go for the OCZ, if not, get the Crucial Ballistix, a very good quality ram. :)

I've got the Ballistix... my previous ram was the OCZ you mentioned. Both are great. I like the Ballistix better.

You will all change your tune once the Ballistix start dying, remember what happend to all the PC4000 modules

I have went for the OCZ PC6400 and its arriving today when this bloody courier arrives.

Will post my results ;)

RAM dies all the time - even if Crucial died 5x more often than OCZ I'd have had 5 sets of RAM to Scotland and back in the time it took OCZ to get my RAM delivered to the off-shore RMA centre.

Crucial RAM may have a slightly higher failure rate, but it's cheap and they stand behind it with a 48-hour RMA service.

That's why I buy Crucial Micron RAM.

Hi there

Get the Crucial 5300 Ballistix kit. Its an absolute steal from OcUK at £59.99+VAT for a 2GB kit that clocks as well as the 8500 kit more or less.

Also I've seen no reports recently of Crucial DDR2 Ballistix failing and even if it does as already said Crucials RMA service is the best of all the memory manufacturers. :)
