OCZ Platinum 2gb PC3200 XTC Edition

After looking everywhere! I have finally found some OCZ Platinum 2gb in stock.
After some talking with some friends who know a fair bit about computers etc they said that its roughly £30ish overprice.
The price is £178.
For this kind of memory, is it worth paying this price in order to get it as I can not find it anywhere cheaper? Or should I just go for 2gb value kit at £116?

I was thinking of going over to DDR2, but in order to get that, I would need to upgrade my Motherboard and Processor at the cost of about £250 more at least, then the RAM price on top.

I have revised my decision and I have came to the conclusion of going for Corsair value 2gb at £122 delivered.

Like you say jellybeard999, overclocking, I am not going to overclock at all and PC uses, after thinking about that all I want 2gb of RAM for is Battlefield 2 and possibly Battlefield 2142 if I get it.

jellybeard999 do you think the Corsair value stuff will be a sensible decision for me bearing in mind I only want it for BF2.

Corsair value is solid stuff - lifetime warranty, wont overclock to high heaven, but has a little leeway generally, but as you say, that doesnt interest you anyway.

After having top grade RAM, bargain basement RAM, and middle of the road ram, i have come to the following conclusion.

If you just want the PC to run and wont fiddle in the bios at all - whether you're a gamer, or just use ms word once a week, get the cheapest RAM you can find with a warranty, if only slightly more, go for a brand you know. Timings make no real difference unless you are benching.

If you like to tweak a little, overclock slightly, but are basically the above - go for some value RAM, but research which ICs are in use etc, but basically get some branded value/cheap stuff.

If you heavily overclock or bench, only then is really good RAM important.

QUANTITY OVER QUALITY for RAM, only exception is for benching.
