i have the 4GB OCZ Reaper kit, however recently the computer has been turning off when gaming, I had a look to see why this might be and have noticed that both heatspreaders on both RAM modules have slid off and now sit at an angle, the problem is i cannot reposition them because the manufacturer holds them off with some strong fixing tape

im hoping i will be able to RMA them, just wondered if anyone could give me some advice or experienced anything similar

Some one else had a problem a while ago, can't remember if it was Ocuk forum user or link posted here.

I found an article here from someone with a similar problem to yours.

http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/hardware/24283-strange-ram-problem-heatsink-related.html

Id suggest contacting ocz to see what they say, they do state that removing the heatsinks yourself will void the warranty, (not saying youve done this) but ive used 2 different sets of reaper, pc 6400 and pc 8500, ocz have revised the heatsink design on the reaper range 3 times now, so there was possibly a fault with the original heatspreader design which may explain the revised heatspreaders.

i was thinking that may be why they revised it, I also havent tried to remove it just in case that did void warranty

mine does look exactly the same as the link you posted, although i havent overclocked or changed any of the settings on my RAM

just hope OCZ can help, their RMA support isnt very helpful so far

i have managed to RMA this, so hopefully i will receive a replacement shortly,

does anyone know if they refurb your own item or do they send a new one?

finally heard that my replacement has been sent, although i will have to wait another 5 days to recieve it

not impressed with OCZ's customer service though

got sent a faulty item, which now has to be sent back again, and at my cost.

dont think i will be buying OCZ stuff again in the future

That's astonishing, Genuinely surprised, I'm yet to have an rma go badly with them. I agree though, if a company did that to me I'd be gone as a customer. Their manufacturing fault has left you without ram for over a month and cost you money, unacceptable for them to be messing you around.

If Ryder is still kicking about on the forums send him a pm. Their rma process may be shot to hell at present but I doubt he's changed from who he used to be.

Good luck man, and please report back.

Please report back once you've got some further news. I have some DDR3 stuff, surprisingly it's the only time I've actually chosen OCZ components.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

thanks, I have been in contact with Ryder, although there isnt much he can do since its the RMA lot in the netherlands who keep messing me around

i have just sent the second RMA which has cost me another £10

so so far im out of pocket around £25 for postage and packing and without my main desktop for around 6 weeks so far, and i wont expect a replacement anytime soon:(

will do, this is the first time i have had OCZ products aswell, i specifically chose them as i heard they were excellent quality and great customer support, so far neither have been true (for me anyway)
