OCZ release SPD-Z

yup pretty much a gimmick, i mean, if you're overclocking its way more convinient to have lax spd timings to ensure booting compatibility if things go wrong. as you overclock cpu/mem you need to relax timings, or sometimes increase them, change them multiple times to check if the settings boot and so on. to go into windows, to use a tool that allows you to change the spd, permanently just adds an extra, much longer step. ok after 25 boots and you've found the exact most stable clock you want, you can flash the spd settings, but really it doesn't make a huge amount of difference. at the point you've got the same settings in bios.

i suppose that its a usefull tool for people with motherboards that don't allow any overclocking/mem options. say they buy new ram for their (dell or something) PC and it runs at the lax timings. this will allow them to run at the best timings for their ram.

Memset can do that in Windows.

As mentioned above, once you clear your CMOS you could be ****ed.

That's what I thought but then again the tool is aimed at overclockers who will most likely have at least half-decent mobo that can set timings.
