Hi,

I recently got some of the following memory from OcUK:

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR CAS3

The stock timings for that memory are 3-4-3-8 but my mobo (IC7-MAX3) has detected "By SPD" as 3-4-3-7 Should I just manually change the setting to the correct ones?

The IC7-MAX3 has a "Game Accelerator" option where you can change the DDR performance mode (Auto, Turbo, Street Racer or F1). At the moment it's set to Auto - could this be interfering?

Manually change the timings to the correct ones.

I wouldn't bother with the different settings the mobo offers and manually try lower timings if you want to tinker with the memory.

Thanks.

I've overclocked my 3.2 P4 Extreme to 3.7 but it won't seem to go further, even with extra voltage (it's nice and cool thanks to H2O).

Somebody suggested slackening the timings on the memory to see if that allowed a higher overclock.

As my FSB is currently 235, the memory is actually running at less than it's native 500MHz - do you think slackening the mem timings will help at all?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The memory should be able to run at 250Mhz with 3-4-3-8 timings

Can you not run the memory faster than the FSB on your system

If the memoryspeed is 235Mhz you might be able to run the memory at tighter timings like 2.5-3-3-8

Thanks, I'll give those timings a go. Am I right in saying there's no need to touch the v.dimm?

Not really, tighter timings might require a little more VDimm to run stable but I would only adjust it if it proves unstable.

I tried these timings at 235 FSB and everything seems stable.

I ran MemTest and no errors showed up, although I did get a "Internet Explorer: Memory could not be read" after a few hours of surfing the net.

If I want to try and push things further (obviously not the CAS) which timings should I nudge up please?
