OCZ Vindicator Opinions?

Hi all,
got this cooler recently to hopefully lower my Temps and up my clock.
I originally went to my PC shop looking for a Tuniq but he couldn't supply it and offered the OCZ as an alternative.

Lookes just like a Scyth?

Anyways, I'm currently using the Freezer 7 Pro keeping my overclcoked to 3.4Ghz Q6600 at 39 degrees idle and 80 degrees load.
I'm using Artic Silver 5.

I know I've a good O/C and 3.4Ghz but I feel I could do better.
BUT...
Temp at load is too high for my liking hence getting new cooler.

(I had a credit note from the shop and wanted to use it).

Whats the crack with the OCZ Vindicator guys?
Reviews seem to suggest its an "ok" cooler with the stock fan, but up there with the Top 3 when a better fan (SilenX IXTREMA 120) is used on it.

Will this combo (OCZ/SilenX) out-do the Freezer 7 you think?

Suppose getting to 3.6Ghz would be good - but it has to be STABLE!

Asking here to check if any of you guys have hands on experience with this thing.

Thanks!

Hi mate. I've used one of these on a mate's PC a week or so ago with a BFG 680i SLi board and a Q6600 (G0) chip. Got it upto 3.46GHZ at around the same temps as yours and they are not quite as quiet as the freezer 7 IMHO. Basically, for how much better it is (3 - 5 degrees cooler roughly) its not really so much of an upgrade as it is a side step. To push the CPU much further than th 3.4GHz -3.6GHz mark and beyond you'll need water cooling or phase change.

Although, 3.6GHz should be achievable with a freezer 7 pro :)

Had mine upto 3.79GHz on water. Got it running at 3.6GHz at the moment (450FSB X 8) at about 60 degrees full load but that's water cooled.:)

Hmnn...
I had hoped this cooler would be a good improvement over the Artic 7...

Did you use the OCZ with the stock fan?
I've read that its made for silence rather than cooling ability and you can do MUCH better fitting another fan (SilenX mabye).

BUt...thats another £15...

If I were you I'd save up another thirty or forty quid and get one of these:

That'll keep an OC'd quad core happy at around 3.7GHz mate.

Fact of the matter is, if you want high performance, you have to spend a bit more :)
