the OCZ - cheapest, looks nicer, but 4-4-4-15 instead of 4-4-4-12 like the other 2

G.Skill PKwhile not as expensive as GeIL, but cheap enough for me to consider.

GeIL Low Latency at the very top of my budget, but i've seen it been recommended many times, why?

which RAM would you choose for a q6600, 8800GTS build?

yes, im thinking about overclocking the q6600 to 3Ghz if possible......

the crucial ballistix is great for overclocking, it also depends what cpu you will be using it with and whether you are going to clock it... if you only clock it to 333mhz fsb, then you wouldn't even need to clock the ballistix

my ballistix is sat at 900mhz 4-3-3-10, and it's done 1200mhz 5-5-5-15...

is that a 667Mhz Ballistix or a 800Mhz version?

i will be buying q6600 and hoping to get it to 400x8. higher FSB rather than lower multiplayer is because the inter-core communications are done on the FSB, so i thought higher FSB may benefit.

The PC5300 Ballistix is great, but some of it is dying pretty quickly. Tho Crucial have the best returns service on the industry. It's usually less than a week turnaround time.

I swapped my Ballistix for the OcUK PC8500 because of this, and the OcUK stuff is running great too. But it only has a 12 month warranty, as opposed to Crucials lifetime warranty.

... "dying"??

another quick question: can i have 2 different timing, different frequency, different brand memory sets and still run Dual Channel??

eg, IF the Ballistix dies, i buy the OCuk 8500 RAM, and when RMA returns, can i put them together?

If they run together, then they'll run in dual-channel.

But there's no guarantee they will run together since they use different chips.

Well, my impending rig currently stands as

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R
E6550
Geil PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency

Is that not the memory to go for? Its listed on Gigabyte's supported list. Ive heard that the Crucial stuff isnt guaranteed as the decent modules that we have been getting? All i basically want is to run my CPU at about 3.0 Ghz..

The Geil ULL *should* get an E6550 to 3ghz. But it's not the best of overclockers.

The OCZ PC6400 is a better bet and it's cheaper.

And the current Ballistix is clocking as well as the older stuff. I received a pair direct from Crucial (RMA) a couple of weeks ago and the person I sold them to has said they are clocking very well. They're able to keep up with his older set.

So would you recommend going for the Crucial or the OCZ.. i mean its £2 difference and im inclined to go for the OCZ because its rated higher as standard for such a small price.

Its going in the board mentioned above, so if you think the Crucial is probably more likely to be compatible id rather go with that.

Also, the chip has a 1333Mhz FSB, but its been so long since ive been involved with the overclocking/memory timings etc side of things im gonna have to re-read up on it.

Both the OCZ and the Ballistix are compatible with the P35-DS3R.

Personally I would go for the OCZ. Without doubt the Ballistix will clock far further (over 1000mhz as opposed to ~900mhz), but the Ballistix can have reliability problems and it isn't worth taking the chance if you aren't intending to take full advantage of its overclocking abilities.

As for the 1333mhz FSB, it's really only 333mhz and needs a minimum of PC5300 (667mhz) memory.

so to run 1333FSB CPU at 1:1 ratio, the most i need is a 667Mhz memory?

i think i'll also go with OCZ. don't want to be without computer for 2 weeks while waiting for Crucial to RMA
