Showing as 500Mhz core freq in CCC.
GPUz gives no info on clocks.
I've Installed the latest drivers, its running damn hot :( around 68% idle.
ATITool also gives errors sayin clocks 71.#j (or something similar) also makes my CPU hit 100% load for some reason.

On the plus side my old card did look like it needed a clean when it was removed.

What can I use to control the fan on the card to drop the temps a bit.
Yes its currently runnin with an opteron 146 so theres a bit of a bottleneck there lol, thats just temporary til I receive my other new parts. mobo is an Epox EP9NPA+Ultra (So only PCIE 1.0 iirc)

also since installing it I also get a popup on startup saying theres a new PCI device detected but nothing knows what it is.
Do I need any other drivers for the sound over HDMI part of the card?

any help appreciated

Those clocks are just 2d clocks for power saving once you enter a 3d application ie a game the clocks will go up to 3d speeds. There is a way to control fan speed but not sure what that is atm. I hear 4870 will have riva tuner support in the middle of next month though.

Afaik, there isn't any 3rd party tools supporting the 48 series yet, at least for fan control, most 48 owners are either fitting 3rd party heatsinks or doing "the fan profile hack". to bring down temps. Got mine set at 35% and it rests at 48 idle/58 load, anything over 40% and I find too loud. :)

Its normal for it to run at 500mhz idle, It will ramp up to 750 when a 3d app is launched.

That is correct. I had GPU on whilst playing COD4 and wonder why the GPU clock went up from 500 to 750 ? LOL

Fitted my Vortexx cooler to the 4870...I was at first thinking have I made the right choice, the vortexx is much lighter than the stock cooler on the 4870.

Anyway, after fitting the vortexx I was impressed.
