This really is a little weird. My machine has been fine for the last 2 years, but over the last week, every time I turn the machine on from cold, it does not output to the monitor, but I can hear windows boot in the background. If I then shut it down and turn it on again, it does output to the monitor but the HDD boot order changes and so comes up saying invalid disk, if I restart and change the boot order it finanlly boots up.

Any ideas? I flashed the BIOS the other night to see if that had any effect, but it's still doing it!

Really am scratching my head.

I have four HDD's and when this happens my boot disk becomes second in the order of priority

sounds like the bios aint saving its settings.

maybe a battery change might fix it

It's keeping all my other settings, and the machine always has power plugged in and turned on even when not in use.

Odd boot issue? Buy a new pair! It does "sound" like an issue with the battery, but have you checked if there are any updates for your BIOS? Try resetting CMOS and setting up BIOS again and reboot, see if it remembers the settings. Perhaps you have a faulty HD of HD lead?
