Odd boot problem

I have an intermittent boot problem. Probably 80-90% of the time my PC boots up perfectly ok. But sometimes when I hit the power button it powers up, after a few seconds, it shuts down and restarts again, goes through its bios checks but freezes about halfway through loading windows. The reset button won't work and I have to press and hold the power button to turn it off. Most times it'll load perfectly afterwards.
It's has pretty much always done this and is more of an annoyance really. Im guessing it's some sort of mono/bios problem?
System is a 2500k o/c to 4.5G (tried resetting that too, makes no difference.)
Asus P8P67 motherboard, GTX 580, Vertex 3 system drive.
Anyone else ever come across this sort of behaviour?

I had similar issues. The mobo is on its way out. I had two ASUS mobos do this recently. Eventually on one of the mobos a PCI slot died which prevented my crossfire setup from working and on the other mobo the entire thing bricked itself. It kinda works when it feels like it, ie. power switch does not function for 2 mins after a shut down, sleep state does not exist anymore (shuts down instead), it forgets to power off GPU and case fans when it shuts down, etc etc... I am starting to lose faith in ASUS. Keep an eye on it and if it starts doing more weird things like i described above, buy a new mobo.

Can you elaborate on this?

when the pc is cold(turned off for a length of time) you would get errors when powering up until the pc has warmed up,usually adding a few clicks more dram and or imc(integrated memory controller) voltage helps to stop the errors from cold boot up,could be a bios issue aswell
