Hi everyone!
So I am new here, and intend to properly introduce myself in the appropriate sub forum here but first the reason I have joined the forum:
Around just over two months ago now I purchased an upgrade for my custom built rig consisting of a Corsair RM850 PSU and a Gigabyte Windforce 3X GeForce GTX 780.
My current specs now are as follows:
AsRock Xtreme 9 series AM3+ Mobo
AMD Bulldozer FX 4100 Quad Core Processor
8Gb DDR3 RAM
OCZ Vertex SSD 64Gb
1.75 Tb of storage across 3 extra drives
Creative Sound Blaster Z
(Before Upgrade) OCZ Stealth 650 Watt PSU
(Before Upgrade) Gigabyte Windforce 3x GeForce GTX 570
Windows 8.1
Since I installed the aforementioned new upgrades I have been experiencing a very odd cold boot issue. It's very particular in how it behaves so I will explain in as much detail as I can...
From cold power off whenever I press the power button on my machine the fans spin up, as do the hard drives (as well as flicker) but my screens do not switch on right away. If I then sit staring at the powered down monitors after around 2 - 3 minutes the screens (and mouse and keyboard) light up finally and the system boots as normal showing no hardware issues in device manager etc. Additionally, to shorten this waiting time if I just power off the PSU at it's isolation switch and then power it back on and fire up the system again it boots completely fine almost immediately.
This does not happen if I put the machine to Sleep or Hibernation, and then wake it up again, even from a cold power on, except for occasionally.
Accompanying this is a couple of other issues which I am CONVINCED are related:
Sometimes after waking the machine up from Standby or Hibernation my sound no longer works, despite the Services.msc window telling me the drivers are running just fine. The sound does not come back then until a full system reboot which is normally instant at this point.
And finally, SOMETIMES after waking the machine up from Standby or Hibernation from cold, and plugging my phone into it's charging dock connected to the machine, it causes a complete system crash which manifests in the screens going off, until I hard reset the machine and do the whole "warm up" process again.
In my nearly 10 years of building and fixing computers for myself, friends and family I have never experienced an issue quite as bizarre as this lol!
For the record here, When the system is running in windows I normally have absolutely no problems, RAM and hardware all shows up correctly and the machine runs fine, even at Ultra graphics on the latest games which makes me think that this is perhaps not related to the new GPU, hence my reason for posting this to the PSU section
I really hope someone can help me here and I apologize for the long post!
Thanks in advance.
Ash.
