Odd CPU temps?

Hi,

I'm not too sure whats going on with my pc / temp apps because I'm getting differing results. E.g

I popped into the bios during the startup and it read around 25degrees for my CPU but once windows starts I checked with core temp and speed fan but across the 4 cores on my Q9550 it was reading low to mid 40s whilst in sensor view it gives a temp of around mid 20s like the BIOS.

My MOBO and CPU are in my sig, cooled with fan bundled with CPU in an Antec 1200 case with all fans set on lowest setting. Should the core temps be that high or is there something amiss?

Different temperature monitoring applications use different sensors and different methods of measuring from those sensors. Anyway, idle temps of the mid 40s are nothing to be worried about. Load temps are more important :)

I'm yet to check load temps, but will download that other app to see what they read. I am fairly new to building my own pc so wasn't sure if those temps were correct. I also want to overclock it at some point so just wanted to check everything was ok to do so. :)

EDIT :Just downloaded it and the temps have 'dropped' by almost 10 degrees each!! So its more like early to mid 30s instead of 40s

I'm using the Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound. I'll have to see how to test for load temps as I've never done it but will post here, hopefully tonight so you guys can check to see if its normal results.

Will also need to read up on overclocking. dont want to try a huge overclock just now. just enough to take it over the 3Ghz with a stable system. So you'll probably see more of me asking loads of noob questions :p

I've downloaded Prime 95 to do a load test on my system, but I'm not too sure how it should be set up. can anyone help?

ok I hit a torture test and ran it for half an hour before stopping it.

Max temps as follows

Core 1 - 65
Core 2 - 60
Core 3 - 61
Core 4 - 63

I take it these are normal readings?
