I have just given a friend an AMD 1800+ and 2 sticks of generic 256BM PC2700 that I no longer require.
This is to beef up his Shuttle SK41G (FX41 Motherboard).
The CPU works fine but he is having problems with the memory.
With either of the sticks it works fine but with the second stick in place it won't boot.
He also hase his own stick of 256MB and gets the same result which ever combination he uses.
This might suggest a motherboard fault but he also sees some strange results with CPU-Z.
With his original stick - the mobo and CPU-Z both report correctly as 256MB.
With either of the sticks I have given him - the mobo reports correctly as 256MB, but CPU-Z reports as 512MB.
The CPU and memory were taken from a working system using an EPoX 8K3A motherboard.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Nigel
