Now my system has been fine for days now, since I isolated a problem with my raid drives. Anyway, I just uninstalled my ATi drivers and rebooted, I installed the drivers and rebooted again. When I got back into windows after installing the drivers I went straight to the task bar as soon as it appeared and I started trying to get into my start menu - now I have a custom theme on that required altering explorer.exe (well, not altering just disabling it I think, as right clicking on icons in the start menu/programs does nothing now). Now my PC hard locked - and I'm thinking that it was because I was so impatient - as my AV stuff hadn't loaded and it hadn't even found the other AVstream thingy. Could that be it? Everything else seems fine and I reset it and everything has loaded fine...

Excuse me, but without explorer.exe i doubt you'll be doing much in windows.

Explorer.exe is the windows gui/shell iirc.

I wouldnt recommend using anything that requires modification to that file, perhaps try an alternative theme ap, plenty out there.

Task manager still work?......

This topic really should be in the software section to, not hardware related.

Yeah I've just realised how silly that sounded. It didn't disable it, but it did something. As my system's been stable for days I'll put this down to me being impatient. I think the theme may have collided with ATI's testing (when it gets into windows usually it does some sort of test).

Software? It hard locked my machine - unless you mean because the problem is most likely software based.

And yes, I know explorer controls the GUI etc, I should've read the the message.
