odd F@H error

Hmmm, my lappy is strugling to return it's last wu:

[13:43:56] + Attempting to send results
[13:43:58] Couldn't send HTTP request to server (wininet)
[13:43:58] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[13:43:58] (171.64.122.136:8080)
[13:43:58] - Error: Could not transmit unit 01 (completed June 28) to work server.
[13:43:58] + Attempting to send results
[13:44:27] - Server does not have record of this unit. Will try again later.
[13:44:27] Could not transmit unit 01 to Collection server; keeping in queue.
[13:47:32] Writing local files

does anyone know wtf is going on, I'll be an unhappytechie if I don't get any points for a work unit that took 3 working days to complete...

according to the server status page that server is currently rejecting connections - the collection server is meant to help but it only works if the work server is just busy rather than rejecting connections

the client will automatically try to resend the WU every 6 hours so no need to do anything other than wait for stanford to smack the server around a bit
your client can queue up to 10 completed WUs before it gets stuck for space so no need to worry about that either

that's something which has come in with the arrival of the collection server

if the client cannot get through to the work server then it will attempt to return your completed WU to the collection server, the collection server must then ask the work server if the WU you are trying to return should be accepted (ie. hasn't already been returned previously) and I guess that when it gets no answer it takes that as false and so refuses to take your WU

at least that's my understanding of it

edit: rest assured the work server will remember you when it's been slapped about a bit with some 2x4

In 90% of cases it will go fine in a day or two when the work server has made friends again with the collection server. I have had the odd one or two which refuse to send whatever you do, but they're few and far between fortunately!
