Hey all, kinda got an odd fault, so games on my games only drive (nvme), crash and freeze pc, but drive checkers all come back as a-ok.

OK so games on another games only drive (ssd) don't crash at all, is my first drive failing and are the checking programs coming back with false positives?

Going to run mem test tomorrow but don't think the memory is at fault. Has anybody have this happen to them. I'm pulling what hair I have left out lol, please help my sanity.

Cheers.

I had something similiar a few years ago, but was on an SATA SSD. It wasn't exactly a freeze (I had task manager open on another monitor). The drive queue would max out and there would be extremely little throughput on it for a minute or two. Given enough time it returned to normal, and would recur every 10 mins or so.

What solved my problem was updated motherboard drivers.
Are you running a fresh windows install and may have missed installing them?

Hey, not on a fresh install but did update chipset and a few other drivers not too long ago. Will look into the possibility the install may be corrupted.

Have used a few different com prompt checks and all coming back OK.

Hey, in the 30's while gaming the hero x it in has a heat sink so I'm assuming its not the temps.

Have put task manager on another screen and when the games freeze that drive is at 100% and stays like that. I'm attempting to update the storage driver at the mo, is there a dedicated ahci driver as I canny find it on the asus website?

In my case, my motherboard was an ASRock Z97 Extreme 4. I installed all the Intel drivers for it, from the manufacturer website. I'm guessing it was either the Chipset or Rapid Storage drivers that did anything, but I did everything anyway.
Even though the Rapid Storage drivers are marked as SATA, I'd still try them.

So, I did a fresh install of Windows, all drivers on the asus site, still the same, formatted nvme on reinstalling games froze and went to 100%.

Have now installed games on 2nd drive, will test tonight after work hopefully it's not pc memory and the nvme has bad sector's on it.

Just my luck that the drive is a couple of months over the warranty period fml.
