The firewall on my router (linksys wrt54gs) keeps blocking requests from IP 10.254.172.1 to the "bootpc" port on my pc (not heard of that). When i searched whois for info on that PC, i get the following :

OrgName: Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
OrgID: IANA
Address: 4676 Admiralty Way, Suite 330
City: Marina del Rey
StateProv: CA
PostalCode: 90292-6695
Country: US

NetRange: 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
CIDR: 10.0.0.0/8
NetName: RESERVED-10
NetHandle: NET-10-0-0-0-1
Parent:
NetType: IANA Special Use
NameServer: BLACKHOLE-1.IANA.ORG
NameServer: BLACKHOLE-2.IANA.ORG

Comment: Please see RFC 1918 for additional information.

How odd ?? What is the bootpc port ? is there any reason why this IP would be making constant attempts to access it ?

bootpc is Bootstrap Protocol Client, port 68. Check out all ports here:
http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers

This is usually the source UDP port seen from a client using BOOTP/DHCP to get it's IP details.

10.0.0.0/8 is one of the private address spaces as per RFC 1918, not routed over the Internet, but it's not unknown for some ISPs to use private addresses within their own infrastructure.

So, it's not incoming requests that's being blocked but DHCP replies to your router and I suspect there's a filter to block any private addresses from the outside. Check with your ISP what their DHCP servers are.
