Odd intermittent BSODs.

Hi all,

I've had this recurring problem for a couple of years now but it has only affected me once or twice every month, and with being away at uni it hasn't really mattered.

Anyway, my PC has started to show a range of random BSODs, all related to different drivers, that debugging suggests are hardware related, and specifically RAM. Things like, ASACPI.sys, ntkrnlmp.exe, etc.

Memtest has run a few passes without any error, but occasionally Windows won't even boot until I try and boot with only one stick. Then it will settle down and be fine for a week until it all happens again.

I'm really unsure what is causing this. Could it be motherboard related? I have heard several mentions of updating ASACPI.sys, but there is no update for Windows 7 x64 on the ASUS website.

Completely puzzled, any help would be massively appreciated.

Cheers
James

Check your ram and cpu voltages in the bios. You can also reset your cpu at stock settings. Get rid of the OC until you stabalise your system.

Did you run any stability tests, Prime 95 or ITB? You could try using 1 stick at a time to elimate faulty ram or socket.

Forgot to mention, look in event viewer and see what it says. Look for time and dates when the BSOD occurred. This may give some insight as to what the problem could be.
To many people fail to use this.

I've used WinDBG, WhoCrashed and BlueScreenView to check through my minidumps and it's always a different cause, based around the same core drivers. The BSODs always come in groups. It'll crash, restart and then fail to boot three or four times before being fine again.

I used to get random BSODs about various things once every few days, could never pin point it to anything specific.. Then I loosened my heat sink slightly and its been fine ever since, regularly going weeks/months without a reboot
