Hello all, this is my first post so not sure if it is in the right area, anyways

about 3 weeks back I turned on my pc like I do every Saturday, it did the usual POST came onto the loading OS screen, and then the internal speaker started making this odd short beep sound, almost like a rapid half beep.
At first I thought it was the hard drive as it sounded very similar, so tried a new hard drive, started to install windows 7, rebooted and same thing, so ok not the hard drive.

I then dismantled the whole system, took out the motherboard, checked for any bulging capacitors, or any signs of damage, none to be found?!?
ok, so I started by cleaning the cpu of its old TIM checked it as well in case it was the cpu which was on its way out, but looks good,
checked the ram, and graphics card, all seated fine

I then checked the PSU with a digital power supply tester, all voltages showed as being fine, so plugged all the cables back in.

Crossed my fingers and turned on the power, and it came on, hmmm odd.

Next day, same sound coming from the internal speaker (WHYYY)

my system is as follows

Gigabyte GA-870A UD3 m/board
AMD Phenom XII 4 970 Black edition 3.5GHz
250GB Samsung SATA HDD
16 GB of Corsair Vengence 1866MGhz ram
AMD Radeon Sapphire R7 370 4GB gpu
Corsair GS 800W psu
Gigabyte K7 gaming k/b
Gigabyte Force 7 gaming mouse
external 1.5TB hard drive for the games (with it own power pack)
Windows 7 Home Premium

Now this build was made in 2011
the only things changed where the ram and graphics
which was 8 GB of Kingston hyper x blue 1333 ram
and a AMD Radeon Sapphire 6970 2GB GPU
this where upgraded year and a half ago, so I am guessing it is not these effecting my system. But when it happens it comes up with no bootable drive found after about 30 seconds of the rapid beep sound

Any ideas thoughts or similar occurrences would be of a great help to me, as I have asked a pc technician to test my machine and he could not find any issues with the HDD or the m/board

I have read on a lot of sites that the rapid beep is usually due to a power issue

BIOS beep codes maybe?#

From the manual:

The following Award BIOS beep code descriptions may help you identify possible computer problems. (For reference only.)

1 short: System boots successfully Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly 2 short: CMOS setting error Continuous short beeps: Power error 1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error 1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error 1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error 1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error

Flat bios battery, maybe. Probably only beeps on cold boots, right? Get a new one and reset bios to defaults after it's installed.

yes, only really beep when booted from cold, not often does it happen when its been on for a while only now and then.
Will try a new cmos battery and see
thank you for the advise

put ina new CMOS battery, checked teh voltage of teh new to old, new one is around 3,34 volts old was at 3,03 volts.
now the reset, is that just putting the bios back to factory defualt, or leaving the battery out for 10 min ?

The bios reset was just a precaution in the event it's somehow gotten into a broken state. You can ignore that part and see if the beeps remain, which you've probably done by now anyway.

turned on Friday night and again now, no issues if anything seems to go through the post phase quicker, so seems as if I might be fixed.

ok for any one else who had this issue, with your pc not turing on, reporting as though there is a boot error, and or the quick buzzing beeping sound, put in a new CMOS battery, i did this 2 weeks ago on the monday, had no issues since, it s as though the battery being near 3 volts causes a short and causes the system to refuse to boot up
