Odd issue or crazy coincidence?

I decided to replace my ageing Sky Netgear router with something newer, a cheapie tp link W8960N.

I set it all up but the new router was DOA, powered up but no machines could connect to it, so I went back to the original sky router..... All of a sudden it won't pick up a connection.

The network works fine, all machines connect as usual to it, the router just can't see that a DSL cable is connected.

I've tried many different microfilters, cables, resetting and everything else sky recommended before saying they will send a replacement router.

Could the borked tp-link have done something to the line? Or is it simply a coincidence that the sky router has failed at precisely that point? Line tests from sky show no faults :-\

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Sorry for the slow reply... Was waiting for the lights to dim for man of steel when I wrote the OP.

I've just checked and there is still dial tone, no joy with the router though, diagnostics still saying DSL line failure / cable not connected.

Really is mighty odd though the timing of this, can't find logic in any explanation other than coincidence.

Typically when the DSL cable was re plugged for whatever reason the internet indicator LED glowed orange immediately, there's no light whatsoever.
