Having a major issue with WMP11 and video playback, but I don't think its isloated to just WMP11. whenever I play any movie, AVI format or even movies in COD2 the system locks, and the media player or game stops responding. I have to force a close, and then the system returns to the desktop etc..

E6600
8800 GTS
SB Audiogy 2

All updated with the latest drivers, and ASUS P5B mainboard, latest BIOS.

It only started to occour after I installed COD2, but I have noticed in the event log EMUdrv.sys failed to load. Searched the system failed to find the file, as this looked to be from an install of some CD emulation software I installed, and removed. Searched the reg, found the reg keys and removed. rebooted and all seems to have cured the event stop message.

Now the system when playing videos BSOD's. Stop creates a dmp file in the mini folder in Windows, turned off automatic restart, and the BSOD is giving me a line of HEX that is 0x00000005 and thats all I seem to get. No driver, no IRQ=LESS THEN so bit in the dark as to what has just gone wrong.

I'm just about to re-image with a stable image, but if I could fix this would be nice. I don't like to just re-image as you don't learn. Google search and technet MSDN search hasn't given me much.

I've got XP Media codec pack installed, DVIX and WMP11. I've removed all apart from WMP11, as my WMP11 is intergrated using Nlite, as my install is slipped with SP2 and WMP11 so no un-installler. I've got a way around this if needed, as I can remove the reg keys manually to convert to WMP10.

But I don't think its the player, I think a rogue Codec has entered the system and is creating problems. i'm using McAfee Virus Scan 8.1 but even this when disabled is not resolving the issue.

any ideas folks? I'm running out of ideas.

Ah I worked this out last night. I found out that an AC3 filter was misbehaving that was installed and left as a reg'd component after the un-install of XP Codec pack.

I deleted the keys, and then upgraded the codec packs, and installed a newer version of Divx, WMP seems stable now, no more blue screens. Normally stop errors of 0x0000005 is hardware.

Now getting DCOM 1005 reg errors now though in the system evt file. Seems to be related to Event Service and COM+ even though the services are set to manual.
