Hi all, I'm not 100% sure if this is the best section to ask, as it involves cabling more than the actual systems, but here goes.

I have 2 megadrive 2 consoles and an AV to component cable, which my TV has trouble tuning into, I get a black and white picture out of it. (Sonic 2 in Black and white, :() However if I use my Asian Megadrive 1 console and it's SCART lead, I get a crystal clear perfect colour picture. I thought that technically SCART and Composite (Video, Right and Left) were near enough the same thing?

The same megadrive 2s and their av cables work fine on a Sony TV downstairs but not on the Sharp. Another strang thing is that when I tune in through the Aerial lead using the megadrive 2s, I have to tune it slightly off what the picture should be to get a colour picture out of it.

Also the megadrive 1s RF doesn't work on the same channel (Haven't bothered tuning it).

I presumed that no massive spec changes happened between the megadrive 1 and 2, any ideas? (The Asian megadrive is PAL, before anyone asks.)

Also, if I got a SCART for the megadrive 2s (not too expensive so I'm not too worried by the cost) would they then work on my TV the same way as the MD1? I ask, because the Megadrive 1 is a bit big and takes up a lot of space, I'd rather have a megadrive 2 set up there.

Long winded and maybe the wrong section, but I'm sure someone on here must have an idea? Thanks. :)

No, they're both PAL. One is my original one, bought from toys r us in 1993 :) and the other was bought from a certain auction site 3 years ago as a spare. This is what puzzles me, occasionally they'll work fine through the cable, but as soon as you switch game it'll default back to black and white. Any ideas?

So far as i know, there shouldnt be any reason it wouldnt..

Scart will give a much better picture than composite.

You also seem to be confusing component with composite ? composite is one phono plug, component is 3 phone plugs

scart is just a connection type not the actual signal. If its a composite wired scart it will be the same. If its an RGB scart it will give a better picture.

I suspect your troubles are due to one tv having an RGB scart port etc.

This is correct, however I have yet to find a console scart cable that isnt RGB

OK thanks, yeh I mean component then.

Yes in answer to the question above, you can get asian PAL megadrives. They are a collectors item (or so I'm told) and not hugely common, but they do exist.

OK, thanks for the info, SCART'll probably work with the md2 then, i'll try one and get back to you.

Thanks for the help guys :)
