Odd performance in COD4

Hi folks! :)

After loving COD5 WAW, I decided to buy COD4 as I've never played it on the PC before. Strangely, I'm having some issues...

My PC's rough spec is:
Q9400 @ 3.2ghz
nVidia GTX 280
ASUS / nVidia 750i SLi motherboard
4gb of Dominator 8500 ram

So anyway... COD5 WAW has been playing beautifully! I'm not sure if it's dropped below 60fps ever. So I thought I'd have no issues with the older COD4. I played COD4 for the first time yesterday, and was rather disappointed. It doesn't have that 'fresh' 60fps feel that I get with COD5 WAW. And when I enter a small building, moving the crosshair around, makes the fps appear to drop to the likes of 10 - 20 fps!

I couldn't believe this could be happening, so I downloaded an app that shows my current in-game frame rate. Playing COD4, with VSync locked to 60hz, the frame rate never budged from 60 fps, yet I still see this poor looking motion. All my settings are maxed out, just like in COD5 WAW. Does anyone have any idea why COD4 doesn't seem to be playing ball?

Many thanks! :)

I assume you already have the latest a.drivers for your gtx280 and b.latest pached up cod4 ?

Try upping the mouse sensitivity it makes it feel faster :)

I remember having a problem like this with COD4, and i soulved it by changing something in vidieo settings. It was either SLI on/off or Vsync. I cant remember which but it solved my problems (I dont have SLI setup btw). If it was the Vsync option then force it in Nvidia control panel instead.
Let me know if that works

Also try latest drivers and game patch

Hi.

Yes, latest drivers for the GTX 280, and I'm running patch 1.7 for COD4.

I would have thought performance wise, COD4 and COD5 would look very similar, yet on my system, COD4 doesn't perform well at all. :(

The problem is much worse when you are in smaller areas, the exact opposite if normal performace issues! I started playing the single player yesterday, and near the beginning, there's a mission where you place a claymore outside a little hut, and have to distract a gaurd. If you go into that hut, and move the mouse around, the frame rate looks like it's running at around 10 fps!

Excellent idea! :)

I'll turn Vsync off in-game, and force it ON via the nVidia panel. IIRC, the SLi option in-game is set to OFF.

After MUCH Googling, I found this thread:

Looks like you were correct. These people all had the same problem as me, and solved it by setting the Sli in-game option to ON. How weird! But hey, if it works, then that's awesome! :D

Yeah i rememmber it being a real odd fix. The glitchy movement was bugging me, even tho my frame rate was at 60 fps. Thought i was going mad, or just being uber fussy. I pressed the SLI on by mistake and it fixed it :D

Thanks everyone! It did the trick. :D Looks stunning now...

I then thought I'd have a crack at playing on-line, and the on-line part of the game wouldn't run! Argg. It's like it was just NOT meant to be... Again, after MUCH Googling, I found a forum which detailed specific error messages in COD4 and how to get around them. Turns out that there's a bug with the RealTek sound card compatibility with COD4. All you have to do is plug a jack into the MIC port and COD4 multiplayer will lauch. I COULDN'T believe it when it worked. These have to be the 2 strangested bug fixes I've ever seen in my life!
