So you know what im running first

My Media Centre
e8200 @ stock
Gigabyte P35 DS3R
Corsair620w PSU
4x 500 gig F1 samsungs in Raid 5 using the mobo controller
1x 160 gig samsung
ATi 2600 Pro
PCi Express XFi
Hauppage HVR 1300
Running Vista 32bit.

I keep getting, and most notably when I use Itunes, basically, a 10 ish second hold on the pc. CPU usage goes up to 50% ish, and the hdd light flashes once a second.

Im sure its probably something quite straightforward to resolve, but does anyone have any ideas please?

One would guess it could be codec related. Do you have any packs installed?

in a word... Nope!

Im not really sure how codecs would cause my pc to sit there pondering and having the HDD flash once a second (its a long flash, not just a quick blast of light, kind of like when you put the indicators on in a car)... especially when its just me loading up itunes

no ideas at all?

I've just been recording something invista media centre, and swapped over to itunes to put on some music. upon doingthis the hard drive light started to flashand it actually stoppedthe recording on media centre, and then it restarted after it had finished its paddy.....

Just now also when closing speedfan to see if there was any smart data the music playing jittered madly like a stuck cd whilst the HDD light flashed at me. then carried on as though nothing had happened ...

No ideas guys?

:S strange, Vista is a fairly slow OS for me too but that seems unusually slow, I'm no expert on this sort of thing but I'd probably back up your data and go for a fresh install.

When Vista first came out there was a lot of reports of odd network and sound usage problems (that one would really slow down the performance of the other).

I dont have any probs myself though and have a fully upto date x64 install (including SP1).

have you installed all updates/patches?
