Odd problem connecting Camcorder to Win7 with Firewire card

I'm having a very odd problem trying to get my dad's camcorder to work on Win7 64 bit.

The VIA firewire card installs without problem, the Canon camcorder installs fine and shows in Devices and Printers as working.

However no software will recognise that it's connected?

I've tried the same card and software on my 7 64bit machine and it works fine?

The only thing my dad said is that he had a blue screen when he first plugged the camcorder in. Is this likely to have screwed something up? Maybe just not finished installing something?

Any ideas? If not I guess it'll be a fresh reinstall again?

Cheers!
Paul.

why not uninstall all the hardware mentioned from computer management>device manager and try installing again, its where i would start before doing a full rebuild, also depending on your version, you should defo check out the system image feature in backup, saves a lot of installation time where you could just let MS deal with it,

there are better products out there but for a simple task, simple software is sometimes required.

My dad uses Acronis and hadn't done a system backup yet so no go there though I may see if we can get back using System Restore

There are no drivers to uninstall as they're all built in to the OS for both the card and Camcorder.
