Hi guys,

I have a very odd problem that is making me tear my hair out. :mad:

Here is the spec of my PC:-

MB = DFI 975 X/G Socket 775
CPU = Intel e2160
GFX = ATI HD3870
Ram = 4GB Geil DDR2

I seem to have a problem with getting the PC to post when I try to upgrade the CPU to anything other than my e2160.

A year ago I purchased a Q6600 from the MM as I wanted to upgrade my CPU. After installing the Q6600 I could not get the PC to post so I thought that either I was sold a dead CPU or that it was not compatible with my MB (After research, I learned that it was compatible with my MB). I re-installed my original e2160 and the machine posted fine. :confused:

I purchased a e6600 from the MM this week and installed it today and guess what?! The PC will not post, however when i re-install the e2160 it posts. I have reset the CMOS with no joy. I am currently in the middle of disconnecting the battery and leaving it out for a while before I re-install it an try booting the PC with the e6600 again. :confused:

Now I don't believe that both CPU's I purchased were faulty, it can't be. I'm really beginning to doubt my MB.

What could possibly be causing this to happen?

Have I missed something during the install process?

Any help or advice on what I can try to get this working would be greatly appreciated as apart from replacing the whole MB I am stuck on what I should do. :(

Thanks OCUK

Hi guys,

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have reset the CMOS and this has not worked, the PC still will not post with the e6600 installed.

I also disconnected the battery for 30mins but this did not work either.

I will check to see if I have the latest bios now.

I will also try re-installing my e2160, going into the bios then manually setting the fsb + cpu voltage, then retry the e6600 CPU (as advised by kennysevenfold).

Will post up the results.

I believe I have solved my own problem (please correct me if i'm wrong).

Have just done some research on the Intel website.

The q6600 & e6600 run at 1066mhz fsb.

The e2160 runs at 800mhz fsb.

The ram I have (4GB Geil 6400) runs at 800mhz.

I feel so stupid if this is why my PC won't post with the q6600 & e6600 CPU's.

Am I correct?

Nope wont be that, as I run that board with the E6600 when they were launched a few years back.

I am puzzled by this, only thoughts are is the board is faulty.
