Odd problem

Update usb drivers/reinstall drivers or try a system restore .
Check task manager.
Check task manager.
If it's not drivers it could be down to too much power being drawn or data being sent/read.
I had a strange issue with my wireless mouse when it was stuck in the (front of case) usb ports where my mouse started randomly stuttering/lagging while a usb stick was transferring files. Took out the USB stick and all was well again, not saying it's the same but have you added anything new to the usb sockets?.
