Hey guys, having a bit of an odd problem on my PS3 when it goes into 576P mode over HDMI. The screen goes green! I'm using a Dell 2407

You can still see what's there, it's like a green overlay or something, very odd.

Every other resolution over HDMI is fine but when I put God of War in it switches to 576P and goes green, I ended up having to play that over component which is kinda annoying having to have both sets of cables in. Especially as component on this screen is a bit poop.

Any ideas?

IIRC there was an issue with the PS2 using VGA as some monitors didn't have a 'sync on green' function?

I don't know if this is related, but it is possible. I remember it came up with the Linux kits as they came with a VGA cable that needed the Sync on Green.

And since it is a PS2 game you are playing it may be the issue?

It is apparently an issue with DVD playback, you could also try changing the BD/DVD settings on the PS3 from Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr to RGB.
That apparently sorts the DVD issue, it might do the PS2 issue also?

Edit

There is a big thread about it at playstation.co.uk

The issue happens even if I just do a resolution test in the settings menu so it's not just limited to the game, it's as soon as it goes into 576P.

I did read about the BR/DVD green screen issue and did change the setting hoping it might help with the game but it didn't.

It's not a huge issue as I'm not going to be doing much that needs that res, more of an annoyance.

I'm going to snag another cable just to make sure it isn't that

Edit: Cheers for the link, I'l have a read.

Edit2: Ah, that's the thread I found last night which led me to changing the BR/DVD setting.

Sorry couldn't help more mate.

I suppose you could hook up to the s-video or something on the Monitor? no ideal but better than playing through green lol

I hooked it up to component to play God of War, I've left both connected so I can switch between HDMI and Component. It works but it's not an ideal situation.
