Odd question about internal and external cards

Currently my souncard is the m-audio audiophile 2496. I've just got a headset with a microphone for Christmas, but unfortunately, it has the 3.5mm jack that my sound card doesn't have a socket for.

I'd really like to use the headset if I can, and I was wondering if it was possible to get an external USB soundcard, and use that for my mic, while using my audiophile for everything else. In other words, can I have both an internal and external soundcard active at the same time and spilt their use so that one is purely for the microphone and the other is for my speakers?

its tricky, you'd be better off just getting an RCA male to 3.5mm female adapter.

Ah, I don't really know much about cables and things like that, so I didn't now you could get something that did that. That sounds much simpler than what I was thinking.
