Odd-sized CPU cooler mounting

Hi guys,

I recently bought a socket 479 (core 2 duo mobile) motherboard from ebay, stupidly not realising that it didn't come with a CPU heatsink or I/O shield. Anyway, lesson learned, I want to get it up and running so at least I don't look quite so stupid. Problem is, the heatsink mounting holes are not of the standard socket 479 ilk (of course! :rolleyes:

) so I'm trying to find a heatsink that will fit the little bugger!

The measurements between the centre of the holes horizontally and vertically measures 5.5cm. Diagonally, 7.5cm. Question is, anyone know of any heatsinks I may be able to use on this board? I doubt heat will be too much of an issue as the CPU's I'm looking to use only seem to kick out around 35w full pelt.

Socket says it's 478. Could that be your issue?

Indeed I thought that at first, but even socket 478 heatsinks don't fit, they're too big =(

tried getting hold of a laptop that has that setup and butchering that for a heatsink?

maybe mobile motherboards are different in their mounting holes.

I actually did try this lol and it didn't fit! I almost threw the laptop at the motherboard in rage =/
