Odd Vista Menu issue

If I click on any Start Menu icon, the start menu immediatly closes and does not launch the application. If I have grouped programs on the taskbar, if I click on the group to open the list and then click on the window i'd like to switch to, the list simply vanishes and nothing happens.

If I use my keyboard to select anything on the Start Menu or in Grouped taskbar bits, it works perfectly.

What gives? Windows Vista.

Can you try booting into diagnostic mode and see if it still happens?

That would immediately indicate something which os opening with windows and the investigation becomes a process of elimination.

Is there a way of doing this without rebooting? I have 8 weeks uptime and everyone on IRC thinks I'm cool

Might be fixed by a restart TBH.

Have you tried stopping the explorer.exe process if you dont want to restart the system?

Manually disabling processes via Task Manager and see if anything works.

Also, perhaps it's all the uptime that's caused a problem in the first place?

Awesome, killed explorer.exe and then restarted it. Works fine now
