Odd Windows Vista 64 Mouse Problem

Bought vista x64 with my new c2d setup a few months ago, always been fine, fast and reliable.

Since yesterday my logitech mx518 mouse has been turning on and off randomly every time i move it. when this happens the laser light goes off and the vista usb plugged in or out sound bleeps. followed by a bleep a second later and it's back on working. Naturally i uninstalled logitech drivers, grabbed latest x64 drivers and popped those in, hasn't made a difference :(

i've tested the mouse on other machines, which are all on xp. Mouse runs fine, so i'm pretty sure it's not a hardware fault. Also every other usb device plugged into my vista 64 system works fine. they don't dissconnnect/connect themselves.

the mouse only does this when it's moved, not when it's stationary.

I'm running out of things to try, and i really wouldn't like to format. as i'm not sure if i can activate again :(

oddly, when i plug in another usb mouse... both of them function fine and none of them turn off?!

is this a driver issue? if so how the hell do i get round this one!
