I lost my install, and am in the process of trying to recover it. I tried the old Fixboot / FixMBR and eventually went for the whole Windows Repair, which is now trying to reinstall XP Pro as an upgrade over itself. The install gets to 34 minutes to go (Installing devices) and either just stays there (Flash bar at the bottom continues, hints still scroll, but after 30+ minutes we're still at 34 Mins to go.)
I occasionally get an error now as well:
or words to that effect.
Anyone seen this before? Tried the knowledge base both on the codes and the svchost app error but no joy. It gives me the option to continue or debug - continue keeps bringing up the error, debug continues, but still at 34 minutes?
I'm going across to Sata on Saturday so will be re-installing anyway, but would really like to get to the bottom of this for my own sanity - really driving me up the wall.
Or - is there any way to reverse the "upgrade" and go back to the previous install. The drive seems stable now (had errors in chkdsk - now finally clear - think it was an overheating problem
)
Edit: I did memtest the rig, but it came up clean.
