okay basically this morning i decided to keep my 4870 for a bit longer until next gen gpus come out and i might make a upgrade. BUT this noise is driving me crazy, and i had a thermalright HR-03 GT in my draw. sooo...... i tried to install it with the red VRM/ram sink that came with the stock cooler.

so after a hour for cutting the mounting plate as it was in the way of the red sink, i manage to get it on with a 120mm fan. then when i power it up all it does is show first 1/2 sec of post and blank.... so i thought omg i broke it. after clearing cmos and a few reboots i still couldnt get it to work, so i thought let me try putting back the stock cooler on. and guess what? it works now....

so i was hoping some one might tell me why it don't like my HR-03 GT over the stock.... as far as i can see the back plate was not shorting anything, the mounting was not shorting anything, so im completely confused why it didn't work....

I obviously assume you were not connecting the 120mm fan to the gcard's header. So could it be that the card thinks there is no gpu fan attached and shuts itself down?

no i thought of that too so i held the gpu fan in hand and plugged it in, scared the crap outta me lol.

i thought i give it 1 more try and installed the sink again, i dono what i did differently but it works....
