Good stuff as ever and with lovely colours! How did you get the black background, it was there to start with I hope... ;)

Cheers. The background was done using my little contraption made out of wire and black felt. Then its just a matter of tweaking the levels to make it pure black (Although these have a very slight tint of green in.)

lighting is spot on. Bloody gorgeous, letting you talent run wild.

3rd is probably one of the nicest bug macros I have ever seen from a non published shot.

You know bug shots are good if I talk about them coz I cant be bothered with them normally!

I do find that lighting is a primary matter when it comes to bug shots. Its the make or break for me. Add that to the composure and excellent focus you achieved and you got yourself a couple of keepers there MK.

They are amazing !!!

what hardware and software are you using ?

Nikon D40x
Sigma 150mm 2.8 Macro

Dunno about software, but theres an outstanding amount of skill to get these pictures.

superb yet again MK!

where do you live?? your garden seems to get some pretty bugs :( at best i get a bee or maybe some dull coloured moth/butterfly! I even get down to a local pond/lake and never seem to find much (saw a damsel fly once but he evaded me), i even sit in the same place for like an hour aswell

... another brillant batch of shots MK.

Do you find that your averages are getting better with all this practice?
For arguments sake, say before you might have had 5% keepers in total from a afternoon bug hunt, now you are into 20-30% ?

Just interested to see if improved ability makes the insects any easier to photograph or if it's the insect that is in control :D

Damn you! :p

I've had my finger hovering over a Tamron 90mm macro lens for a couple of days on eBay. I can't really afford it, and you're not helping!

I can see nothing really wrong with these at all. They are brilliant. Lovely lighting, composition etc. Spot on. I have to say that the first pic is the best macro I've seen of yours IMO. The third is a pretty unique angle/composition, and is all the better for it. The second one falls slightly short of the other two, but is still rather good in it's own right.

Good work ;)
