Rice size amount in the centre of the IHS.

i'd use mx-1 paste instead, better than as5 and the others. as5 is hard to spread, its sooo thick, leaves an uneven surface.

basically you need the thinnest amount possible spread on the cpu and you are good to go:)

Is there a cheaper way about cleaning the heat sink etc.. Cause I havn't brought any 'ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover and Surface Purifier'

use a bit of spit and some kitchen roll:P

i use meths spirit, cleans it like new. or even just dry kitchen roll and buff it clean.

yeah, i just use dry kitchen roll unless my dad is home then i use kitchen roll dabbed into some meths, every last bit comes off using that.

I take it I can use my fan and heat sink from my 939 4000+ single core?

Might be OK.

I tried using my 3700+ stock HSF on my new 4400+ X2, and it was too hot for my liking. 45C idle and 60C load, although that was in the middle of that heatwave a week or two ago.

Now using a Freezer 64 Pro - 35C idle and 48C load.

Basically, try your existing one and see how it fares. Otherwise, I recommend the Freezer 64 Pro ;)

Hi Joe,

I've put a heatsink on and off an X2 processor about 10 times this week while I was trouble-shooting a no boot issue, anyway while I was doing this I thought I may as well have a play around with different methods of applying the thermal goo.

I found the best method was just to put a small blob (half a pea) on the centre of the X2's IHS and then just mount the HSF. The pressure from the heatsinks clips really does flatten out the blob until it reaches the edge of the chips surface.

Apart from being the best method I also found this way to be the quickest, no faffing around with a credit card trying to get an exact layer all over the chip! :D

Each difference CPU type (mono/dual/quad core) has a different method of how to apply the goo correctly, as always its worth reading the instructions.

Regarding cleaning off the crap from an old CPU (and other hardware) this is what kit I use :)

It will fit and work, just that it wont work very well. If its just for stock speed then you will be ok but if your gonna be overclocking invest in a nice HSF (preferably one that can fit any socket, think investment!).

Thanks mate, I'll find out monday hopefully won't be too hard I'm going to be stocking it until I get my self a new HSF I didn't overclock this chip either but wouldn't mind giving it ago.. Learning slowly :D

Thanks JoeBoi
