when i built my Mum and Dads PC i installed XP Oem, they're never gonna upgrade so didn't see the point in Retail. Now the problem...

... i think my mum may have thrown out the XP booklet with the OEM key on the back. And i cant be bothered getting every box and drawer out to check.

Their Windows install has become seriously un-usable, so i'm gonna do a fresh install for them. :) Is there anyway of finding this key within windows, or do i need to buy a new one.

Merry Xmas.

Magic Jelly Bean.

You have however broken the terms of the OEM licence by not attaching the sticker to the case of the PC, so your licence is void.

OMG send me to jail, a simple YES/NO would have done. ;) :D

But then again, did i stick it to the case? Mmmmmm, might have to check on that. :p

Yes there is a way of finding this within Windows. I don't remember offhand, I'll edit this if I find it in a quick search.

You'll likely have stuck it to the case. I usually stick them inside the case.

Magic Jelly Bean. And I just noticed Memphis already said that.

As for breaking the terms of the license a judge will rule in your favour, as it's an unreasonable contract term. The license is not void, even if Microsoft say it's void as long as you state it's still valid.

a plan -

go to college/school/place of work
steal a sticker off the back of one of the PC's as they're usually not used by the OS,
use the key

Turned into a stealing and defacing property not belonging to the owner now has it?

Why not steal a car to get there.

aw pfft.

ive stole many of these in my time, our old school PC's ran on Windows 2000, so to show our dissaproval, we nicked the OEM keys and sold them/used them

if not, enjoy buying a new key for your parents PC

There is no need to buy a new key for your parents. Ignore the trolling scumbag thief.

It would not have been stuck to the booklet unless you stuck it on there, it comes attached to the plastic film around the booklet/disc.

I stuck it to the booklet, because when i first built their pc it was in an old case i had, till i could get them a new one. so i stuck it to the book wrote on it whos pc it was for then put it in that safe place where you can never remember ;). Seeing as the key is tied to the motherboard and not the case, i deemed this reasonable.
