Can someone clarify exactly what the OEM versions of Mcafee and Norton etc are?
I have tried on two different occassions to order these versions from two seperate vendors.
Both times the disks supplied stated they could only be used with a seperate licence.

No vendors seem to be making buyers aware of this?

So what exactly is the point of OEM versions?

Thanks
Andrew

OEM software as a general rule and McAfee in particular can only be distributed with a new PC. If you buy it separtely, then your not licenced (from what I can tell reading the Licence agreement). This is a way of shipping products cheap with a new PC but keeping general retail versions inflated.

OEM is the same as retail minus the box & manual. It's designed for shipping with new systems.

Thanks for the replies.
This is what I thought and indeed I bought it with a number of PC parts.
The Cd though states it requires seperate licence and that the CD is merely a means of 'distributing' the software.
So if I built a PC and installed that is it legal or not?
