Specifically the 3700+ sandeigo, are there any major differences between them regarding steppings or success of overclocks etc. Is it worth paying the extra for the Retail even if you don't need the cooler?

Difference is only £18, a decent cooler costs more than that. You could use stock for now and see how it performs (noise & cpu temp) However if OEM was considerbly less I would go OEM..I've bought OEM CPU's and perfectly stable.

Yeah, my last 2 CPUs have both been OEM athlon XP 2400+ and 3200+ and both have been fine.

I'd be looking to overclock at some point (probably with a big typhoon) and wondered if better steppings go into retail ones or they both just luck of the draw?

EDIT:

If you can afford the extra, don't buy the oem, buy the retail 3700+ and you will get a better chip, the oem is a poo stepping and overclocks like a pig

Answered my question before I posted it haha. Cheers.

I would imagine it will be luck of the draw,i think its a good choice going for the oem + the big typhoon, seems like one of the quietest coolers around.I am in the same boat at the mo upgrading from a socket A setup and this is what i have decided to go with.
