Sorry its been done before (i did search but there were a million pages containing OEM)
Anyways does a OEM copy of XP Media tie itself to certain parts of your hardware or is it just the motherboard?
i.e. once its installed on my pc i cant upgrade any of my hardware parts without loosing my cd key etc!
i hope this rambling makes sense!
cheers!
john!

iirc there was a thread similar regarding XP. Apparently you're allowed 3 maximum re-installs.. and a new motherboard is determined as a new PC.

from what I understand, its the motherboard AND or CPU.
so you can change ram etc but not those two.

you're further limited to three installs over a set number of months, if you install it more than three times in that period they will wanna know why.

Seriously? I'm on my second CPU and third mobo combination.

I just remembered this copy of XP will be staying on the same CPU/mobo, phew :)

Getting another one for the main PC....it's such a pity they can't do licensing to allow you to buy one copy that can run on X number of PCs at home or something.

Oh well 2 OEM versions are cheaper than one full version of XP Pro!

Wrong, your allowed as many reinstalls as you need as long as you are licensed.

Just the motherboard not the CPU.

they do, its called volume licencing and you don't have the volume.

if your motherboards keep breaking and you keep buying new ones ms WILL let you activate on and on, if it fails, ring them to say the mb has broken and they'll sort you out, you may get some one on the phone who says "we can't do that its OEM, can't help you". if so, just phone up again

Even with volume licensing, each PC will require a license, they'll just be a little cheaper.

would ms allow you to have a volume licence for a small business (ie 5-10 pc's) ?

just wondering how it works

Different licensing programs have different minimum amounts of clients required, but some are avaliable with just 5 clients.

Basically, you get a increased discount with a bulk buy and you can get other benifits such as software assurance.
