I notice in the for sale section the rules say you are not allowed to sell OEM software.

What is it?

I may be being very thick here but I dont know what OEM software means. What can't u sell exactly?

Cheers,

G

Software you have bought as OEM and are reselling.

AFAIK it's something to do with the fact that when you buy OEM software you're agreeing that it's going into a system build for that purpose alone, not for resale or multiple machine builds.

Well that's waht I think, I await being proved utterly wrong :o

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. If you buy a computer from Dell or such like the software you recieve with it (The Operating System or Office for example) are OEM verions of the software, It is also possible to buy these OEM verions of software (Which are cheaper than 'Full Retail' versions) from people like OcUK on the provisor that it is bought with components that constitute the core of a system, once installed with these components it can no longer be installed anywhere else. Also in theory if these components are changed a new licence must be purchased to use the OEM software.

If you have purchased a 'Retail' version of software, you own the licence which you can transfer as you need as long as you never exceed the number of licences you have purchased.

oem is software that has no box and a pretty plastic wrapper and the cd key and maybes a serial key....its basically for "pre-built" pcs like hp or dell ....like a restore disc etc....... but it can be bought on the side...normally 10X cheaper and who really needs instructions ????

I always thought it just meant it didnt have a box :o I bought a graphics card with OEM once and it didnt come in the box with all the extra bits.

I guess if the software came with your pc it wouldn't have a box either.

/edit i see :) thanks for the info
