Why does OCuk only sell the OEM versions of Vista now....I thought that the OEM version was only licesnced for one motherboard or something like that?????

It is. As i remember they had a hard time selling the retail ones due to the price point.

Because people refuse to look any further than the "price" when buying things.
The OEM license is quite clear.
However people seem to think that if in the future they should need to, a quick lie to MS and all will be fine.
If this continues to be the case we don't know - the OS has been out for less than a year.

I'm sure all of the OEM purchasers will be the first to complain if in the future they find they are forced to buy a new copy after an upgrade.

For me it was the price differential between what they pay in the States and what they pay over here. I imported my new copy of Vista Ultimate and paid less than half the UK RRP, even though I got charged a small amount by Customs.

Not OCUKs fault, but still...

Then they should charge less for retail so people didn't have to lie when re-activating.

It's not rocket science, cheaper price = more sales = happier customers.

True.

For something that is such a requirement I think MS over price=shoot their own feet. I mean there many millions if not billions of PCs out their!

Because some people will use the copy for that PC only and don't fancy spending a huge amount on the retail version?

it's a tiny segment of the ethusiast market who need retail because they're changing motherboards every 5 minutes. i've had my mobo for 2 years and i'm not planning on changing it anyime soon. :)

I would say that most on here change equipment quite a lot..including myself...thats why I was querying the reason for OcUK not selling retail copies????By the way....I also ordered the OEM version..LOL

most on here still isn't very many in the grand scheme of things. :)

and there are other shops apart from ocuk....

Upgrades don't count though. Sticking an extra 512MB of RAM in or a new HDD doesn't void your OEM agreement.

Many people change their motherboards infrquently, as it's usually part of a major upgrade or new build, you wouldn't change your motherboard and your motherboard only as a quick upgrade would you? Say to move from 4 USB ports to 6?
