I wish to format my hard drive because I am going to upgrade. However, my computer came with windows pre-installed and I was given a windows disk. I don't think it is a recovery disk because when I run it, it gives me the option to install windows.

I have the product activation key, but will windows accept after I have formatted as I already used it? Can I install windows at all?

Sorry to ask such noobish questions, but at least I will know for future!!

I can see no reason why it wouldnt work,if you have an original Disc, original CD Key then it should work.
No difference between a freshy formatted disk and a brand spanking new disk.

You're good to go I suggest :)

The recoery disk i have boots up like a widows disc, just also installs some other stuff as well.
So you'l be ok, if the worst happens, buy a new oem disc for £60

You won't have a problem. In the unlikely situation that it won't actiavte over the net, ring them up and explain your situation with the number provided.
