Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition inc. SP2 - OEM - 1Pk (E85-04026) (OS-002-MS)

is the above all that i need to install xp pro..the wording makes it sound like it's not the 'whole' thing...basically, if i buy this will i be able to install XP straight away, or do i need somthing else?

That should be all you need to install Windows XP Pro

instead you could get:
Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre 2005 Edition - OEM - 1Pk (M93-00200) (SW-008-MS)
Price: £65.99 (£77.54 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Which is Windows XP Pro with media centre. For some reason it is £20 cheaper tho? :)

No fancy packaging, OEM has limitations in the license. MCE is cheaper because it cuts some XP Pro features.

More info in the sticky.

I didn't realise there were any differences :)

Looking at the sticky the only difference seems to be networking on a domain server tho.
Windows MCE is a superset of XP with only one exception. As with Windows Home Edition, a MCE system cannot be a member of a Windows Domain and therefore isn’t usually suitable for an office environment.

Yep, that's the only difference. And you can re-enable it with a registry hack... so there's actually no difference.

OEM can only be installed on one machine, if you upgrade that machine too far then its a different machine, ie you have to get a new copy of windows. The retail versions allow a bit more shifting about. (Edit: Theres also something about you only being able to install on a fully formatted hard drive, can anyone confirm if this means FULLY formatted, or just a formatted partition? ie other partitions are allowed on the same drive before the install?)

I think thats the difference at least. I'm currently looking into an OS as well because I'm needing to buy an OS for my parent's PC. But that won't be getting upgraded much so my choice is really between home or MCE :).
