Watched the BlackBelt video and wondered if I would find it here, be interesting to see how the UK responds now.

Could set a precedence for other non-UK sites that have implemented checks for UK customers :D

I feel like I'm out of step here but I agree with Ofcom in principle if not in approach.

Alarmed to see so many 4chan supporters here though. SA should never have perma'd Moot.
You’ll get virtually no support for it here given the demographic. I’m sure it’s more positively supported outside of Reddit and tech forums.

I don’t agree with parts of the implementation myself.

We should all go back to smoking in pubs, allow kids to buy alcohol and let people scroll Instagram whilst driving.. the government are overstepping their reach, its the parents responsibility damnit!!111

I'd love to see what would happen to this gov if the police decided to down tools for a day. I reckon the whole of Whitehall would be ashes.

Also, where's Tram? He's usually the first to appear to our little whinges about the UK.

I don't agree that it's the demographic here as it's an issue that is being spoken about in the pubs and those at work who typically don't show an interest in this kind of topic. It probably does make a difference those spaces being a little more male dominated mind you.

I think those who are more positively supportive of it are mainly those who haven't thought it through properly (myself included initially) or those with more out there, controlling and draconian political views.

I think there is a lot to be done for “the children” in terms of access to things on the internet, particularly pornography and social media.

I don’t think this act will do anything to achieve those aims though.

I don't think they even need to take a day off, the pressure keeps mounting and the police are over stretched and outnumbered as it is. There will probably be some catalyst event, the people will stop fearing the police and everything will get messy.

yes how do you deprogramme the children in their internet echo chambers,

government should consider that the neets are addicted to watching click-bait videos, and legitimately don't have time for jobs.
.... do you have any regrets yes, too much time on the internet

The people shouldn't fear the police, the fact that many do indicates a far deeper problem.

Criminals should fear the police, but most don't because they're either let off Scott free or ignored.

As for "children online" the issues aren't being addressed, there's a huge problem with supposed child friendly games like Roblox. Parents don't realise that Roblox functions a lot more like an old school chat network such as the IRC-X based MSN Chat (Not IM) and others from back in the 90's and early 00's, it's not akin to Fortnite or Minecraft or whatever else kids are into. Said chat networks shut down because of "reasons" but it was largely due to rampant kiddy diddler problems, and I can testify to that first hand as I came across several back in the day. The Online Safety Act and heavy handed measures do nothing kids cannot easily bypass. There's creepy search terms for pedo-crap which brings the stuff up hidden in plain sight on major websites like youtube and others.

This nonsense from our ever incompetent government has nothing to do with protecting kids shy of those involved in it being out of touch and unfit to be making legislation regarding things they do not understand, it's about a soft firewall of the UK that will only get worse.

I could name a few other major things the Gov could do to "protect the children" offline that they refuse to do but I'm already being far more political than I'd like.

This thread has strayed way way off topic.

As noted above, threads already existing in Speakers Corner for the OSA and we don't allow politics talk outside of SC anyway.
