Hey all.
Myself and a friend want to see an F1 race.
We're making a compromise based upon holidays from work and budget. We'd love to stop over and do the full works but neither of us are in the position to do so.

The plan is to visit Silverstone. Spa is on hold for now.

Options are:
1) General admission - Sat £85
2) General admission - Sun £150
3) General admission - 3 day pass (only go Sat+Sun) £170
4) Buy a silver ticket - Stowe A, Stowe C, Copse C remain - £225-240

I'm stuck between option 3 and option 4.

We intend to drive the 100 miles for the Sat and Sun.

Where is the best place to buy F1 tickets from? I have only quoted the main F1 Silverstone website. Are any discounts available?
Which Grandstand is best from those I have mentioned?

I would recommend option 4. If you have the open ticket (3) then you'll need to get to the track very early on Sunday to get a decent viewing position.
Option 4 gives you a guaranteed seat and it has open access for Friday and Saturday so you can sit where you like :)

Going on just the Sat is pointless, just do Fri (lots of running for the money) or whole weekend.

Tends to rain most of Friday, besides they'll be on their second set of power units by then and running short of spares.

Sat isn't so bad, the race will most likely be fuel saving or tire saving whichever runs out first, provided of course the engine is still going.

The one thing that I would say to you is to be where the cars change direction quickly, such as Becketts. If you can get into a position where the cars are coming towards you, and then moving left/right you will be far more aware of their capability.

Don't bother with any straights, or even Copse/Stowe. You'll fall asleep.

I did Silverstone F1 two years ago. We did the 3 day open access.

Friday you can sit anywhere anyway, so we stayed in stands out of the rain. Saturday was a washout, but we still found good places to watch the cars. Sunday was glorious sunshine.

I think I'd get bored just sitting in one spot, but having a guaranteed seat on sunday would probably be worth it.

Get to the circuit ridiculously early if you're not camping. Traffic management is abysmal, especially if it rains.

Plan for torrential rain, hope for sunshine. Its a lot of exposure either way, so bring shade, hats, cream etc.

We got tickets direct from Silverstone website.

Since the redevelopment GA is pants. There is hardly anywhere good left to view from.

Get a grandstand ticket and ensure its one that includes a roaving seat for Friday and Saturday (there are a few that don't so watch out).

This, it's much more exciting. More action.

Sorry but last year I was sat at the end of hangar straight.

Right at the point where all of the tyres were letting go. Thrilling to watch.

Hangar straight grandstands give you a great section of track which mixes high speed straights with a nice complex of turns which usually result in some close racing.

Last year I paid around £200 for the Sunday from the Silverstone website. It is expensive but it's once a year and its a great experience with a lot to do and see on the day.

I would suggest using a park and ride to avoid the queues a bit. Also, don't be in any rush to leave once the race is over as its usually complete pandemonium. We usually just walk around the entertainment areas afterwards.

I notice you are talking about general admission. You absolutely want a grandstand ticket for GP day.

What are your options? Stowe is uncovered so if it rains you will get wet, and if it doesn't you will get sunburnt. Copse or the old pit straight are limited in terms of action. What else is in your price range?

I'm not too sure tbh.

I've only been on the Silverstone website:
http://www.silverstone.co.uk/events...h-Grand-Prix/?tab=Book-now&ticketType=ViewAll

The village perhaps? That is the absolute maximum £.

Within my price range is:
General admission 3 days (will only attend Sat/Sun).
Stowe - No cover, but is there action? Cheapest ticket.
Copse - Is there action? Cheapest ticket.
National pits straight - Not much action?
Village - Sunday only.
Vale - Sunday only.

My main concern is tickets are selling out. I need to make a decision very soon.

Stowe is great but as mentioned uncovered so you need to wait for the day before making clothing choices.

I took a waterproof jacket last year which I ended up carting around in my bag all day and buying a hugely overpriced team cap to keep the sunburn off me.

A bag is a must anyway as its a long day so taking a waterproof jacket isn't the end of the world.

I would rather have a great view than sit in one of the more expensive stands with an arguably less interesting view

Stowe looks like a winner.
B is sold out.

A or C? C has the twisty bits after the straight but A will get the best view of playing a game of chicken in the braking zones.

Stowe isnt much of a braking zone. I would go Stowe C and use the roaving seat to explore the entire track on Friday and Saturday.
