Don't normally post in the GD but thought this might be worth a mention.

Had an interview on Tuesday (7th) for a year in industry placement (I'm in my second year at Nottingham doing Comp Sci) at QinetiQ in Malvern, Worcs.

I was a little nervous as I really want my year in industry sorted so that I can concentrate on the mountain of coursework I have got. (Hope your all thinking poor student...)

Got a phone call today from year in industry people saying that both people that interviewed me want me to join their team next year :D!

Of course I was pretty damn chuffed but now I have to choose between the two positions : - Signal and Information Processing or
- Networked Solutions (Commercial and Military)

I'm slightly swayed towards networks but I'm not decided. Just wondered if anyone had any advice.

Cheers,

Yeh it does, I'm reading up on both job specs now. After speaking to people that work there it seems like a fairly decent and flexible place to work. The training is meant to be top notch and they do allow you to move between departments at a later stage.

There's a fella in my year at Uni who works at QinetiQ, he works on the website though I believe. One of my mates Dad use to work there as well, there both pretty strange.

Lets hope it doesn't rub off on you.

Lol, I *might* have noticed that when I went for interview. And also the fact that they openly admit it in their presentations.

Networking! Such a wide and varied field and in demand more than ever - your experience will be more useful.

(Advice provided without warranty ;))

Cheers, for advice, will take into consideration (even though not proven! :p)

Well I am not sure what I want to do after uni, I want to use my year in industry to help me decidee (/me answers interview style question).

As for the networking side I would be in the Command and Intelligence Systems sector working on textual analysis and stuff (had a phone call earlier from one of the managers explaining more about the position), which isn't really networking lol but other sections of that department do more networking style stuff.

I was also told that I could have an option to do 6 months in both departments and that they are fairly flexible.

I suppose I would be interested in either a graduate job there or somewhere like GCHQ which I might be a good candidate for after working for a company like QinetiQ.

Hadn't had a phone call from either manager that I left voicemails for so I go to the shop, and bam - have a 15 minute phone call while examining the cheeses on display in the shop.

Great company to work for. I used to be a supplier theirs working on behalf of their purchasing team. You won't go far wrong working for them. Nice one :D

Cool thanks.

I think I am going to go with the sixth month each thing, it will offer me the most variety in a year and hopefully they will like me enough to offer a grad job.

Cheers for input all,
