So, after two weeks of waiting Bath University have offered me an interview for a PGCE in Chemistry.

Very happy, but had a wave of nervousness come over... I'll be given a date nearer the time! Plus I need to get at least 2 days of teaching observation in before my interview.

Has anyone else had an interview for a PGCE or similar type of interview, as I've heard some places sit you down for 30 minutes and between three interviewers they pretty much try to tear you apart, good cop bad cop style.

Any stories or advice?

My interview for PGCE was by 2 people just asking general questions. Why you want to be a teacher, what makes a good teacher etc.

They wanted to know if you had any teaching experience, so I'd speak with a local school and see if you can get in there helping out as soon as possible if you don't have any experience currently.

Are you teaching now? What subject / university did you choose?

My mum is a teacher so that makes it a bit easier, I'm always asking her questions. I'm also talking to my old secondary school and chasing it up again today.

How far do you live from Bath? I'm in my final year at Bath (well just finished) and love living here. I guess it also depends on your financial situation as it's not the cheapest place to live.

I live in Bridgwater (1hr 18min drive away) but soon to be moving slightly in that direction. (1hr drive away)

Currently I'd have to get a train to Bristol Temple Meads (45/50mins) and then a train to Bath (around 5-10mins) then bus it to the campus!

My girlfriend lives in Bristol though as she's at UWE, so I can stay at hers a few times during the week to save me going all the way home.

Or..

I could try as hard as possible over the next few months to pass my driving test and do the above but without the public transport.

Or..

I could take out another £3500 maintenance loan and find a place in Bath.

Chemistry is one of the shortage subjects however so there would be a £9000 bursary paid monthly over 9 months.

Got a room I could rent Westy? ;)

I'm considering looking into midweek renting or finding some students who need a room mate for this September. No idea where to look though.
