Lol its allready low enough, you even get CoJ with them, get the powercolor, its £234.

OK i didnt need much persuading anyway lol, im very impulsive,

but does anyone think ill be wasting my money?
i do game at 1920x1200, the only game that thats a problem with so far is lost planet, and i dont really like it anyway lol, got it for free tho so i might as well play it, also when the new games like crysis and such start to come out i might need the extra power till the next gen upgrade,

so what do ya think?
to crossfire or not to crossfire??

I could never justify to myself why if i ever went SLI/Crossfire, i mean you dont get 100% increase in performance yet pay the same amount, would be cool if when you bought a card capable of running SLI/Crossfire you get the next one half price or something, then i would consider going SLI/Crossfire but as it stands i wouldnt although i would rather go Crossfire with two 2900 xt's than 2 x 8800 GTX's, way to much money for 2 GTX's.

Yea for price and performance you definately get more bang for buck especially in games that don't support sli. In games that do support sli the gtx
sli will prob be faster.

Yeh the GTX SLI will be faster but about £250 more than Crossfire 2900xt's i just think that 8800GTX SLI is way to expensive where 2 2900xt's are a lot more reasonable for the cost.

In some games the 2900XT crossfire is faster than 8800GTX or Ultra SLi because Crossfire scales better than SLi.

Economically SLI/Crossfire only makes sense as a cheap upgrade in 1-2 years' time when these cards will have been superceded and will be selling for peanuts.

But if you buy using a Visa credit card and the price on them drops within a month of buying them, VIsa will refund you the difference AFAIK.

really??

I know its not everything, but the 640mb GTS and 2900 are as good as each other, i wasn't talking about Xfire/SLi, if you were going to buy a car, and the guy said you can have this one thats about the same, and the same price, but it comes with a free satnav etc... would you say no thanks, ill just have the one without it, i don't think so. :p

Because it makes no difference?

It could do when Dx10 games appear that use higher textures. memory's gona play a part then. :)

I still don't know why anyone would buy the 512mb 2900 over the 640mb GTS, fact is its got 128mb more Ram for the same price. your getting 128mb extra for free.

Meh... maybe... dunno.

Then again, if there are lots of Dx10 games that are programmed for VLIW then the 2900XT would have been the better choice anyway. :)

Hard to say at this point.

Thats true.

If someone was to say to me you can have this card with 640mb Ram, or theres this with 512mb, im always gona take the 640mb, seen as both cards are as good as each other and the same price. :)

Only way to find out would be next Thursday when the 'This Week Only' changes i guess, unless Gibbo can let you know beforehand whats going to be on offer, he'll probably have an idea closer to the day though, so if he spots this thread im sure he will let you know.

But the cheapest 2900xt is like £35 cheaper and if you look at the performance with the new 7.7's the 2900xt beats the GTS in about everything by a good 10 fps! I would rather have more fps than the 128mb. At the mo anyway, like you said when theres a rush for higher memory, chances are you will get a new card anyway.
