The Official Dead Rising 2 Thread

250px-DR2cover.jpg

Release date:

USA September 28th 2010
Europe October 1st 2010

Platforms:

Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Publisher:

Capcom

Developer:

Blue Castle/Capcom

Plot:

The game is set 5 years after the events of the original Dead Rising. The zombie parasite that originated in Santa Cabeza and caused the Willamette outbreak has spread all over the United States. This is due to the 50 orphans scattered throughout the United States who had been injected with the parasite; subjecting them to zombification and infecting the rest of the US.

The game will take place in the fictional setting of Fortune City, which is modeled after Las Vegas, Nevada.

The game's protagonist, Chuck Greene, is a former national motocross champion who takes the role as one of the very few uninfected humans in the city. Just like Frank West (the player-character from the original Dead Rising), Chuck will face a number of zombie hordes as well as surviving psychopaths and civilians whom he may choose to save.

Anyone else really excited by this? I'm playing through Dead Rising 1 at the moment and having a right old blast.

Cannot wait for October 1st.

Will put up some screens and videos later.

Edit: Would a mod kindly add an 'i' to the title, I missed it out. :o

It most certainly is worth a play.

I wouldn't say it's brutally hard, the first play through might be difficult until you level up but it's still a great gaming experience.

I am on my second playthrough and I am currently level 43 (it's not hard to level up once you start taking out psychopaths and rescuing the survivors).

It's probbaly one of my best games of this generation, yes it has faults and people don't like the dave system, but it suits the game.

Not a game I'm following so does it have co-op?

IGN

# 2-Player Co-Op: Co-op play is introduced to the Dead Rising universe for the first time as players can invite their friends to partner up with them at any time to take on the zombie massacre- tag-team style! Play with a friend and have even more fun as you lure zombies in using strategic items like a toy helicopter or a firecracker. Once the zombies have gathered, your friend can rain bullets from above or shoot at a strategically-placed gas tank to create a deadly explosion that will take out masses of the enemy. Killing zombies with a friend is always more fun.
# Terror is Reality: Allows 4 players to compete in a gladiator type show that pits zombies against a group of players in the ultimate Vs. multiplayer blood bath.

Sounds like great fun!

Also of some note.

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero

"Case Zero" will be an Xbox 360-exclusive download. It will be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It will develop the plot in between the two main games and will act as the demo for Dead Rising 2. The story takes place three years before the events of Dead Rising 2 and involves Chuck's first large-scale adventure against the horde of zombies. The player can reach up to level 5 in Case Zero, after which the player may carry over his experience and cash earned into Dead Rising 2.

I would love the 7 day survivor achievement, it certainly is one of the best games of recent times.

I hope the second is as good as the first.

Case zero is not free, will cost 400 msp. Any links to an online review? Interesting to know the thoughts.

Hmmm...
So that's basically the Dead Rising 2 demo in a way, which you have to pay for?
Of which the review so far isn't that positive.

I'm already sat on the fence, this has just pushed me back over to my own side!

It's not really a demo as such.

It's being billed more as a prologue to DR2. It's roughly about 1.5 hours worth of gameplay if you just run through the missions, but there is a lot to do in the 'demo'.

There are about 10 achievements I think for it, and also progress from this game carries over to the proper DR2 game.

Excellent news! I was under the impression from IGN etc it's not available in the UK until September.

I hope the other release date for th emain game comes forward to.

Will download the demo tonight, and hopefully be able to get some points to buy the full game.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the full game.

Seems very sluggish compared to dr1, but I assume that's because I am used to level 50 Frank.

It is more of the same and I cannot wait for the full game.

It's quiet painful! And it also does a good job of ruining the atmosphere.

I hope the proper game will not suffer from this, but I fear it will. I mean if you had to wait for the game to load at every cutscene that's a great way to ruin the experience!

I agree with Thesnipergecko, it has a very sluggishfeel to the game. Hopefully once you level up he will get quicker and things will flow better.

I put this down to (as noted above) playing with a level 50 Frank West and being used to how he runs around and does all the fancy moves.

It's the load times/amount of loading screens in it that drives me nuts.

Carlito?

That boss fight is quiet hard the first time you do it. It becomes so much easier once you get the mini-shainsaws. :D

Dead Rising protagonist Frank West will make his triumphant return in a new downloadable epilogue for Dead Rising 2, Capcom's Keiji Inafune announced during the company's event at the Tokyo Game Show tonight.

The epilogue, titled, Dead Rising 2: Case West, is exclusive to Xbox Live. "Apologies to PS3 fans," Inafune stated via translator. Not much is known about the content, but It will involve Dead Rising 2's Chuck Greene and Frank West working together in some capacity. Inafune also said Dead Rising 2 - Case 0 has sold over 500,000 units since its launch on Xbox Live.

Inafune also revealed Capcom has purchased Blue Castle Games, developers of Dead Rising 2. The studio is being renamed to Capcom Game Studio Vancouver.

"We're really honored that Inafune-san sees potential in us," said studio president Rob Barret at the event.

Hopefully it will be as well priced as Case Zero.

Good news about them buying Blue Castle. They are obviously very pleased with what they did with DR2.

There are magazine reviews, the one I read stated don't expect it to build on the first one, its just more of the same with combo weapons.
